Taking Liberty at Swansea City

As a professional photographer based in Swansea, I was recently commissioned by commercial lighting company, Thorn Lighting. They were looking for a images of the Liberty Stadium to be used as a display and exhibition stand. However, capturing an image of the stadium filled with fans and floodlights shining directly into the camera posed several technical challenges that required overcoming. In this article, I will share my experience and how I was able to overcome the lens flare, resolution, sharpness, angle of view, and technical problems using the Nikon D800.

Lens Flare

One of the biggest technical challenges I faced when capturing the image of the Liberty Stadium was lens flare. The bright lights shining directly into the camera lens can cause unwanted reflections, reducing the overall quality of the image. To overcome this, I used a lens hood to block out the light and maintain the clarity of the image.

Resolution

Another challenge was to ensure that the final image had high resolution. A high-resolution image is necessary for the image to be blown up to a large size for the exhibition stand. I used the Nikon D800, which is known for its high resolution and excellent image quality, to capture the image.

Sharpness

Sharpness is an essential aspect of any image, and it is even more critical in this case as the final image was to be enlarged. I used a tripod to stabilize the camera and prevent any camera shake that could reduce the sharpness of the image. Additionally, I used a fast lens with a wide aperture to increase the depth of field and maintain sharpness throughout the image.

Angle of View

Choosing the right angle of view was crucial for capturing the image of the Liberty Stadium with the floodlights shining directly into the camera. I experimented with different angles until I found the perfect perspective that showcased the stadium and floodlights in the most stunning way.

Equipment

The Nikon D800 is a full-frame DSLR camera known for its excellent image quality, high resolution, and versatility. For this project, I found the Nikon D800 to be the perfect tool for capturing the image of the Liberty Stadium with its powerful features and advanced capabilities. The camera’s full-frame sensor coupled with the Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8AF-S NIKKOR G ED N Lens allowed me to capture a wide angle of view, and its high-resolution capability ensured that the final image had excellent sharpness and clarity.

Conclusion

Capturing the image of the Liberty Stadium with the floodlights shining directly into the camera posed several technical challenges that required overcoming. However, by using the right equipment and techniques, I was able to capture a stunning image that exceeded the expectations of Thorn Lighting.
